Aquí van las respuestas de sus preguntas:
What does ¨chico¨mean? Chico literally means “boy”, but when I say “chicos” or “chiquillos” in class, I’m saying “you all”. How has speaking Spanish been helpful for you? Spanish has changed my life! I have been able to travel all over the world and meet amazing people and eat amazing food and see amazing things. Spanish has also given me many job opportunities. I did not plan on teaching Spanish in high school. Actually, I wanted to do marine biology or politics. I ended up getting degrees in history thinking I would become a history professor before I ended up doing social work and working here. Spanish has given me incredible communication skills and has opened up opportunities in employment as well as socially. How much homework will this class give? As much as you need. I will not assign additional homework that is graded. You will only have homework if you do not finish your in-class work. However, there will be daily practices that you can access online to support your language learning as needed. Do you think having a binder for Spanish is a good idea? Yes! Especially one that has some notebook paper or a spiral notebook in it. Thoughts on pineapple on pizza. Love it. I love pineapple on everything, especially pizza. Haters can have boring dry pizza with no pineapple, but I am going to eat all the pineapple on a yummy topping stuffed pizza. Will every single thing in this class be in Spanish? Pretty much. Brain science and language experts suggest that the more comprehensible input you can get in a language – meaning words and vocabulary that makes sense in context, the quicker and better you will learn the language. So I will try to give you as much input as possible, meaning almost everything will be in Spanish. Will there be any partner projects? Yes, Lots. Do you have a quizlet account that we can study from? Yes, Profewilliamson. I will link to it on my website. Are you related to Zion Williamson? Not that I am aware of… Are we going to be needing note sheets from Spanish 1? You will not need them, but they could be helpful this first month. For speaking presentations, are you allowed prepared notes? Usually, unless the point of the presentation is your ability to speak without notes. But you will always know in advance and have a lot of time to practice if that is the case. Where are you from? Snoqualmie, WA. Do you allow food in your class? Yes, until someone 1) makes a mess or 2) it becomes a distraction. When did you learn to speak fluent Spanish? When I was 20. I lived in Chile for 6 months and not many people there speak English. About month 4 I realized I was not thinking in English any more or translating in my head before I spoke. Additionally, I was able to talk to friends in large social groups and keep up with jokes etc. My language skills have gone up and down depending on how often I use them, but usually within a week of speaking and being around Spanish again and I’m back up to fluent. Can you go over the speaking in class credits like how speaking 10 in class should be like? (Spanish 2) Yep. In Spanish 2 first quarter you will get 10 points for trying to speak Spanish once a day. Second quarter you will need to speak in Spanish at least 5 times in a week. This means answering questions, conversing in Spanish, and participating in Spanish in class activities. There will be no penalty first semester for speaking English. Second semester you will need to speak Spanish at least 10 times to get those points and points will be taken away for English use. Do I have to be really good at the preterit tense for this class? We will practice the preterit this unit before we begin the Spanish 2 book. So you will get additional practice. That said, our first unit is on Preterit vs Imperfect and so if you struggle with the preterit you will have a harder time with the new material. Will the activities be similar to Spanish 1? Yes, though because you will be learning different material, some activities will be different. Can we choose where we sit? For the first unit in Spanish 2. After that we will have assigned seats. Spanish 1 will get assigned seats sooner. How tall are you? 5’ 10” on a good day. Do you do tutoring or recommend one? I do not tutor, but we will have flex time when I will always be available for one-on-one or small group help. I would give yourself a month or two to see how it goes before worrying about a tutor. Can we play kahoot? Maybe, I tend to use quizlet more… How many units will we be learning? In Spanish 1, 6 units. In Spanish 2, 8 units plus our Spanish 1 review.
